Halloween candy that reached discount retail shelves weeks before the season has been recalled across 13 states because the packaging never told buyers it contained milk. Crystal Temptations of North Arlington, New Jersey, recalled its Chocolatey Eyeballs in five package sizes after a TJX analyst discovered that candy made with whey was distributed in wrappers that did not disclose the allergen.
The timing is what gives an end-of-August notice real reach. This candy was bought early, and much of it is sitting in closets and pantries waiting for late October. A milk-allergic child at a party, a classroom treat table, or a front door does not encounter this product for weeks.
