Halle Berry recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of her portrayal of Catwoman, a role that has left a lasting impact on both her career and pop culture. The 57-year-old actress took to Instagram to share a series of topless photos, posing with two adorable kittens, as she reminisced about bringing the iconic character to life in the 2004 film.
In her Instagram post, Berry expressed her continued affection for the character, stating, 'And STILL… meow! It’s been 20 years today since I had the honor of bringing this iconic character to life. She will always be close to my heart and I will forever be Patience Phillips aka CATWOMAN!'
Berry also took the opportunity to thank Jee H. Lim for assisting in the rescue of the two kittens that had appeared in her yard, whom she named Boots and Coco. She shared her gratitude for the help provided during the rescue process, highlighting the importance of caring for animals.
Reflecting on her preparation for the role of Catwoman, Berry revealed that she was given a real cat named Playdough to observe and study. She immersed herself in understanding feline behavior, dedicating her time to learning how cats think and move, which ultimately contributed to her authentic portrayal of the character.
Despite the film's mixed reception and box office performance, Catwoman holds significance as it marked Berry as the first Black woman to lead a major studio superhero film in the early 2000s. The movie has recently found a new audience, with younger viewers discovering and appreciating it for its unique merits.
Berry acknowledged that while she had reservations about certain aspects of the storyline, she felt constrained in expressing her concerns at the time due to her position in the industry. She noted that contemporary viewers are approaching her to discuss the film, showcasing its enduring impact and relevance even after two decades.
As Catwoman continues to resonate with audiences, Berry's dedication to the role and her contribution to diversifying the superhero genre remain significant milestones in her illustrious career.
