Halle Bailey hits back at fans who accuse her of 'lying' about pregnancy

Halle Bailey has hit out at people who suggested she lied about her secret pregnancy

The 23-year-old actress and singer, who played Ariel in the recent remake of Disney classic The Little Mermaid, revealed she had had a son, called Halo, at the start of the year.

Bailey riled up some fans when she posted a series of pictures on her social media showing how she used photoshop to hide her belly in one shoot.

She wrote in the caption: “Lmaooo do y'all remember seeing this pics on my insta? we photoshopped out my belly [laughing emojis].”

Some didn’t see the funny side, calling her a “liar” for using technology to hide her pregnancy.

The Color Purple star Bailey hit back, writing: “I never lied or even said anything about it honey, making a joke about my nose was the farthest I went.

“I’ll never understand why you are mad I protected my own peace, wouldn’t you do the same?”

She added: “And I’m gonna share my pics now if I want to because my son is here safely, if u don’t wanna see it just keep scrolling baby lol God bless you !”

Some time after, she added: “Lol my hormones have been on 10 recently so I’m gonna go back to staying off twitter. love you all.”

Bailey announced the birth of her son and called it “the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me” in January.

She announced his safe arrival on social media, posting a picture that showed a baby’s hand wearing a bracelet with an inscription of his name.

She wrote: “Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son. welcome to the world my halo the world is desperate to know you.”

Several celebrities replied to offer their congratulations.

Rapper and singer Nicki Minaj wrote: "Welcome to earth, Halo. We’ve been expecting you. Congrats, mama!"

Singer-songwriter Kali Uchis said: "Congrats my love. I know you’ll be the best mommy."

Canadian model Winnie Harlow also offered her congratulations, while Rachel Zegler, the star of an upcoming Snow White adaptation, said: “Welcome baby halo!!!!! and congratulations beautiful mama.”

English musician Raye said “welcome halo, sending you so much love”, while American singer Queen Naija added that Halo was “adorable”.

Bailey had not publicly announced her pregnancy and did not reveal when she gave birth.

Her partner is the American rapper DDG - Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr - who also announced the birth on social media.

He wrote: “My biggest blessing by far. Son son.. never been so in love. Baby halo.”

Bailey plays Young Nettie in a new version of The Color Purple, based on Alice Walker’s 1982 novel.

She has also appeared in Disney Chanel children’s sitcom Austin & Ally.
