It used to just be a tiny biscuit popped on the side of your saucer if you stopped off for a coffee, but it seems that Lotus Biscoff is taking over the world. OK that might be a slight exaggeration, but it's certainly had a new lease of life.
From Biscoff spread to sandwich cream biscuits, there are now all sorts of products you can buy from the range.
Cafes and restaurants have also been quick to jump on the trend with Biscoff cheesecakes, shortbread and every other delight you can think of.
And while shoppers and customers seem to be lapping them up, they certainly don't come cheap. A 400g jar of Lotus Biscuit Spread will set you back £2.70 at Tesco, with a pack of three Biscoff Ice Cream Sticks costing £4.10.
So with shoppers raving over Aldi's ice cream equivalent, costing £2.19 a pack, we of course had to give them a go. There's no mention of Biscoff of course as they can't use that brand name, but the retailer has called its version Gianni's Caramelised Biscuits Chocsticks.
They're both exactly the same size - you get three 71g ice creams in each pack - and on the outside they look very similar too - the lollies themselves, as well as the red and white packaging.
Both include ice cream with biscuit pieces, covered with caramelised biscuit spread and then coated in milk chocolate with more biscuit pieces. They sound the same and look the same so it's not really that surprising that they taste pretty much the same.
While perhaps a slightly stronger biscuit flavour and a few more biscuit pieces with the real deal, it's not a big enough difference to set the two apart and I can't see any Biscoff fan turning one down.
When you throw in the price difference, with Aldi's working out at 73p a lolly and the Lotus ones from Tesco costing £1.36 each (a difference of 86%), I know where I'll be getting mine from in future. Aldi do a white chocolate version too so there's even more reason to go back for more.
