New research for National Pet Month this April has found many of us don’t realise that we aren’t feeding our pups nutritious food. 44% admit feeding their dogs kibble that contains ‘meat meal’, a highly pre-processed animal protein that could have come from any species of ‘warm blooded land animal’.
This generally includes sinews, beaks, offal, connective tissues, and in some cases, bones. Two thirds of respondents didn’t know what meat meal is or what it contains. 29% are not sure what they should be looking out for in dog food.
When asked whether or not they would feed themselves or their (human) family members a highly pre-processed and nutritionally lower value meat source - like the meat meal that at least 44% are already feeding to their dogs - three quarters (75%) state that they would not.
