Hairy Bikers prepare for TV comeback after Dave Myers' cancer battle

The Hairy Bikers are working on their first show back travelling the country after Dave Myers ’ cancer.

In March, Dave spoke of pretending to ride a motorbike on a Pilates ball and even making motorbike noises because chemotherapy has ruined his balance.

But now he is back in the saddle and on the road heading down the West coast with his best friend Si King.

The new eight-part series announced at the Wales Screen Summit for BBC2 and iPlayer is called The Hairy Bikers Go West. The BBC say it “celebrates the amazing food producers, cuisine and vista of Britain’s West shores”.

Si, 56, and Dave, 65, will start in Scotland and ride all the way to Devon, in a “perfect trip” where they revisit places that are meaningful, as well as meeting new friends.

In March, Dave revealed he is “holding his own” in the fight against cancer. On the How To Be 60 podcast, he said: “I do feel I’m getting better, in terms of mobility and physiotherapy.

“The cancer, I really have no symptoms of it, it’s the chemotherapy.

“It’s neuropathy [nerve damage that causes numbness] in your feet. They sit me on a Pilates ball and rock me, pretending I’m on a motorbike.

“They’re good people, they’re determined to get me back on the bike.”
