Hairy Biker Dave Myers reveals how strange diet helped cancer battle

Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers has revealed that a special diet has helped him back to work after his cancer battle. The popular TV chef has got back to filming the TV show with sidekick Si King, delighting fans.

He has fought back after a tough time with chemotherapy led to him losing his normally health appetite. And now he has revealed that eating sauerkraut, kimchi and meatballs has set him on the road to recovery, the Mirror reports.

Consuming the so-called “good bacteria” in kimchi has been credited with helping people maintain a healthy digestion, and sauerkraut contains lots of fibre which is also beneficial.

Dave, 65, said: “It’s unbelievable to be back. Every breath I take now is just refreshing and fabulous. It varies really what food I’ve been having. At some stage I need to put weight on but I need things to boost my immune system.

“So I’ve been eating a lot of sauerkraut. It really works for me – sauerkraut, kimchi and meatballs. I live by it. It’s a probiotic and good for the immune system and keeps you regular. I love it. It’s the healthy eating that does it.”

He has previously told how the gruelling treatment made him lose weight and put him off his food, despite describing himself as a “glutton”.

Now he says: “We got back filming this week, a new TV series, and it is a huge step back to normality and winning an award. I got diagnosed last March so it’s been over a year. It’s a work in progress, and it’s all going the right way. I’m getting there and I’m back on the bike.”
