Haircutting service for the homeless service relaunched by lottery winners

A haircutting service for the homeless has been relaunched in the UK nine years after it was originally thought up by Stewart Roberts MBE. The former Salvation Army volunteer brought his scissors to a session and Haircuts4Homeless was born.

Since then, Stewart's service has opened more than 70 projects across the UK and Ireland, recruited 600 volunteers and given more than 50,000 free haircuts. The service was put on hold in Wales due to the pandemic.

But now thanks to some kindhearted lottery winners, it's back. Richard Davies was a full-time hairdresser who won £1million on the Euromillions in 2018 with wife Faye.

Richard, from Talgarth, South Wales, rescheduled his usual clients to ensure he could come along to Haircuts4Homeless.

He said: “The look on our guests’ faces when they saw their new haircut, and the extra spring in their step as they walked away, will stay with me for a long time.”

Geraldine Bradley, from Carmarthen, continued to run her hair salon with husband Chris following his family’s £3.5m National Lottery win in 2006.

She said: “We have been humbled by the work of The Huggard Centre and Haircuts4Homeless, and the team’s ability to provide support for those experiencing homelessness.”

Founder Stewart added: “It’s really important to make it clear that our service is back in Wales.”
