A hairdresser in Llanelli has been named a cut above the rest in a national awards. Angela Griffiths, 53, is celebrating after coming third in The UK Hair and Beauty Awards after entering the Best Cutting Salon category.
It is the eighth award that she has won during the course of her 37-year long career after starting out in hairdressing when she was just 16. Angela was thrilled to win the coveted prize for her salon based in the town’s Frondeg Terrace.
She said: “This is the first award I got for my own little salon. The day I left school I started hairdressing, I entered this competition and that was the end of that.
“There were so many different categories for beauticians, eyebrows and cutting salons. Cutting is my favourite and I won third in the UK Hair and Beauty Awards for the cutting category.
“I looked into it and there were people holding up different certificates and one was 76th in the country and I came third.” Angela, who is originally from Gorseinon, added: “I worked in salons in Llanelli and started off in Pisces, as that was the place to be, and the Hair Workshop and I went on to work for Regis International for 10 years as a manager there in Llanelli town centre.
“I was in the open salon in the St Elli Centre called Hair Express. I had really good training and went to Birmingham and London and won several awards and the most successful salon in the UK.
“I went to Ireland and I was over in New York for the President’s Awards - I had a large team and it was a busy place. I have also got into the finals of the Welsh Hair and Beauty Awards.”
She said she was hit during the coronavirus crisis with staff leaving the salon but is hugely proud to be adding to the wall full of awards already in place.
