Hailey Bieber has revealed she 'couldn't speak' and that her face drooped when she suffered a 'really scary' stroke caused by a blood clot in her brain last month.
The wife of singing superstar Justin Bieber described her ordeal to fans in a 12-minute YouTube video titled Telling My Story, published on Wednesday.
The 25-year old said doctors told her the cause of the clot was down to a combination of side effects from birth control pills, Covid-19, and a long haul flight.
Subsequent tests revealed she had a grade-five patent foramen ovale (PFO) - the largest category of a hole in the heart - which had enabled the clot to escape through her heart and travel to her brain. Emergency surgery was required to repair the problem.
Speaking in the video, model Hailey reassured fans she would be able to move on with her life now that the ordeal is over. She opened up, however, about the impact it had on her mental health.
"I would get really bad anxiety and my anxiety was making me feel funny," she said.
"It would make my fingers and hands feel tingly, and I just honestly had a really, really hard time."
Hailey has been taking a daily dose of blood-thinner aspirin since the surgery, which she says has 'exaggerated her anxiety' and made her feel 'very out of it', although she is now feeling 'much better'.
At the end of the video, she thanked the doctors who had taken care of her throughout the whole episode. and said "I felt like it was important for me to share this."
In a statement posted in an Instagram story, meanwhile, Hailey said she began to feel ill while eating breakfast with Justin at the time of the stroke.
She added that she recovered within a few hours of the surgery and soon returned home.
Earlier this month, meanwhile, Hailey hit back at fan speculation that she was pregnant after husband Justin was spotted cradling her stomach on the Grammy Awards red carpet.
