Hafta letters: NL’s assembly election coverage, India on Ukraine-Russia, UP poll predictions

Hi beloveds,

About five months back, I wrote with a promise that I'll upgrade my subscription with my second salary. I didn't do it for two reasons:

a) I was working in elections and I realised your content will play with my moral compass and make it difficult to work. It was difficult to watch ground stories and then look at politicians not caring about it even a bit.

b) I was in elections, so no time either!

But I have taken a good time detoxifying myself and am writing this to you after taking an annual subscription.

Also, been watching the episodes of Another Election Show and some of the ground reports. It pains me to see that some of the reports you guys have got were known to me when I was on ground and are so true, but no other media house picked them up.

I loved the following about your election coverage: media coverage, issues that are important, and involvement of university students which made me hopeful.

Feeling good to be back!

Take care!

PS: Text limit badha do yaar.

Hi all,

Till Manisha and Happymon made the point, it kept ringing in my head that since the start of the war, India has missed a major opportunity to mediate on the Ukraine-Russia war. Mediating with both in New Delhi is an opportunity that India should take.

The only thing that could stop India is to finish evacuation of Indian citizens first, so that citizens are protected!

But this is a big, big, big miss. Probably this is something the Indian media should make the government realise!

But thanks Manisha and Happymon for making this point.

Best regards,

Dhiraj

Dear NL team,

By the time you guys read this letter, UP election results would be out, so I think this might be a good opportunity for me to test my skills predicting the future!

I predict that the BJP is going to lose the symbolic Ayodhya seat and Varanasi south seat where the Kashi corridor is located. I also predict that Raja bhaiya will not be able to win a seventh consecutive term from Kunda. Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will also lose his seat and Puja Shukla, the Lucknow university students' union president, will win from Lucknow north. Yogi Adityanath would save his seat, but with a reduced margin of victory (less than 60,000 votes).

Fingers crossed, I may just have found a new career for myself!

Ayush
