Hackney: Man convicted of rape and assault of ‘vulnerable woman’

A man had been found guilty of the rape and assault of a vulnerable woman in Hackney.

Pascal Jombla, 45, of Amhurst Road, Hackney, was convicted at Wood Green Court on Wednesday for six counts of rape and two counts of actual bodily harm.

He will be sentenced on March 30, 2023.

The court was told how Jombla, dragged a woman who suffers from mobility issues, into his home and repeatedly raped and assaulted her.

The victim, who sustained a fracture to her back as well psychological damage, was told that she would be killed if she did not keep quiet during the ordeal.

Jombla eventually fell asleep and the victim managed to get to the front door and shout for help. She was found by a member of the public who called 999.

Officers found her with extensive injuries to her face and body and she was taken to hospital. Jombla was arrested and later charged.

Detective constable Jean-Luc Argent, the investigating officer, said: “The victim continues to suffer the psychological effects of what was a truly despicable assault. She is a vulnerable woman who was incapable of defending herself against the callous and merciless actions of Jombla. He now faces a substantial amount of time behind bars, where he belongs.

“The Met will not stand for violence against women and girls and will do everything we can to bring violent and predatory offenders to justice.”
