Haaland reacts to Elland Road love, Phillips's fat chants and Leeds United moments missed

American acquaintances

Tyler Adams and Jesse Marsch were on the pre-match media circuit down the touchline. Amazon and NBC were the broadcasters with desks in front of the John Charles Stand ahead of the game.

Adams, suspended, was predictably requested for a turn with the American broadcaster as the captain of their national team. He and Tim Howard were very friendly with one another before he faced the cameras.

Marsch, meanwhile, was called up by Amazon as a part of their typical pre-match routine with the managers. The head coach bumped into Alfie Haaland, who he had talked about in glowing terms as a supporter when he got the Leeds job, on the touchline.

After a selfie instigated by Jan Aage Fjørtoft of the three of them, Marsch too went over for a handshake with Howard.

Klich and Phillips have a word

If there was one player you knew wouldn’t have a problem chatting to the Manchester City bench, it was Mateusz Klich. As the Pole trotted out for a first-half warm-up he could be seen turning, smiling and talking to someone in the away dugout.

It’s not a huge assumption to believe it was one Kalvin Phillips.

Too fat to play for Leeds

Phillips made his first appearance of the match in the 62nd minute when he trotted out for a warm-up down the John Charles Stand touchline. The fans applauded, he clapped back and then Luke Ayling had a laugh with him at the northwest corner.

Jack Harrison would have a chat with the England international too before choruses rang out from the home support about Phillips’s weight. Pep Guardiola made headlines last week for suggesting Phillips had returned from the World Cup overweight.

“You’re too fat to play for Leeds” was the more family-friendly of the two. Phillips would laugh it off and clap back.

Haaland feels the love

After the game, all eyes were on Erling Haaland, who lingered in the centre circle for several minutes after the full-time whistle. First, he would embrace Marsch (Former Red Bull Salzburg boss) and talk before standing with Rasmus Kristensen (former Salzburg teammate).

Rene Maric (former Borussia Dortmund coach), would also chat with Haaland for several minutes before the striker made for the tunnel. “You’re Leeds, and you know you are” rang out from the home fans who stayed behind to see him.

Haaland clapped back to all sides of the stadium.
