Gyanvapi Mosque Case: Hearing deferred due to lawyers’ strike

Varanasi: The Wednesday hearing in the Gyanvapi mosque case may get deferred as lawyers are on strike protesting against a letter issued by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Varanasi Bar Association member Anand Mishra said it has been decided to observe strike after a letter was issued by the special secretary in which an objectionable word was used. Reports said that a counsel of the Hindu side has written a letter to the bar association requesting that the hearing should be allowed in the Gyanvapi case.

The court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar on Tuesday removed Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra from the survey team with immediate effect, after Special Advocate Commissioner of the team Vishal Singh complained that Mishra "compromised the probe by lack of secrecy and disinterest”.

The court directed that the report will be submitted by the Special Advocate Commissioner and gave two days additional time for the same. From the Hindu side, a new application was moved, seeking direction for removal of obstacles in front of the statue of Nandi. The court invited objections on the application moved by the Hindu side and fixed Wednesday as the next date of hearing. (UNI)
