GWR trains cancelled after 'fatality' on line near Bristol

Trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Swindon are being cancelled after a 'fatality' on the line near Bristol.

Great Western Railway (GWR) says some services are being cancelled, delayed or revised as "all lines are blocked" between the two major stations. Services to and from Bristol Parkway are also affected.

Stagecoach buses are conveying people from Swindon to Cheltenham and Chippenham instead, while the British Transport Police manages this ongoing incident, which is expected to last until 2pm, as Gloucestershire Live reports.

GWR said on its website today : "Due to the police dealing with an incident near the railway between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads all lines are blocked. Disruption is expected until 2pm (February 25).

"Train services between Bristol Temple Meads and Swindon may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

"Stagecoach bus route 51: Swindon (Bus Station) - Cheltenham (Promenade) and Stagecoach bus route 55: Swindon (Bus Station) - Chippenham (Station) are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice."

The operator added: "Due to the police dealing with an incident near the railway between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads all lines are blocked. Disruption is expected until2pm (February 25).

"Train services between Bristol Parkway and Swindon may be cancelled, delayed or revised."

After seeing the updates, many passengers tweeted GWR to ask for more information on when their trains would arrive.

The operator's Twitter account responded: "Hi Charmaine, sadly due to a fatality on the line disruption is expected until 1300 today. Please speak with train crew onboard for travel guidance.

"If you arrive at your destination 15 minutes or more than planned, you can claim compensation here: http://delayrepay.gwr.com/- Jess."
