Gustav Isaksen to Celtic transfer latest as winger's Lazio future 'hangs in balance'

Lazio winger Gustav Isaksen has been linked with a potential transfer switch to Celtic.

The 23-year-old has been tipped for an exit from Italy this summer with a host of clubs credited with interest.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Celtic are interested in a swoop for the player on an initial loan deal.

It's reported a loan with an obligation to buy could be negotiated between the two clubs with Isaksen's future at Lazio hanging in the balance.

The Denmark internationalist has played twice for Lazio this season, scoring once in a loss to Udinese.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to add to his squad this week with a record-breaking transfer exit for Matt O'Riley to join Brighton expected in the coming days.

Isaksen is the latest name to emerge as a possible target this week with Barcelona's Alex Valle expected to sign a loan deal before the window closes.

Asked how much work he and his recruitment staff have to do in the transfer window this week, Rodgers said: "Yes, it's a lot of work. A lot of work. These are great weeks. Of course, it's building into the game next weekend. That's the big focus for us. But, of course, we want to strengthen the squad and we will look to do that."

On why recruitment dealings have perhaps been prolonged, Rodgers added: "There are a number of things I won't go into here. But it's definitely something - having come back in and gone through three windows now - we have to put right as a football club.

"We shouldn't have been getting into this last week in the position we're in. That's the reality.

"However, that's something for us after this window. As I said, we'll get the players in that we want. We don't need to manufacture our own stress when there's no need. We don't need to do that. So we'll be calm this week.

"We'll look to get the players in that can strengthen us."
