GURUGRAM: Active cases in the city crossed the 500-mark on Thursday as it added more than 100 new Covid cases for the third consecutive day in a row. Gurugram reported 147 new cases on the day, compared to 146 the previous day.
With this, the active cases now stand at 504.
The last time the city had more than 500 active cases was on March 7, when the city had 529 active cases.
The daily positivity rate dipped to 8.7% on Thursday from 9.1% the day before. Hospitalisations continue to be very low — according to data from the health department, only one Covid patient is admitted to a hospital in Gurugram at present.
On Thursday, a total of 1,672 tests were carried out. Tests averaged 3,000 to 3,500 daily in March.
During the third wave in January and February, more than 5,000 tests were being conducted every day.
The health department urged people to follow all Covid protocols while venturing out. “People need to understand that it is important to use face masks, maintain social distancing and sanitise hands to curb its spread. We are going to witness a surge in the coming days. The situation is dynamic at present and we are closely monitoring the cases,” Gurugram chief medical officer Virender Yadav said.
Meanwhile, experts pointed out that there is no need to worry at the moment as the hospitalisation is very low. Dr Manjeeta Nath Das, senior consultant at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, highlighted the importance of the booster dose. “The weather is changing and there has been a sudden increase in temperature. The government is providing booster doses at most of its hospitals free of cost. Even private hospitals are providing it at different costs in a certain price slab. People should take their booster dose if eligible at the earliest,” she said.
She added that vaccination camps are also being organised. “Many private hospitals are organising camps at different community centres. Schools are also holding camps where the government is providing vaccine doses. The Omicron variant didn’t affect us much as most people are fully vaccinated. The inoculation process is going on well and there is no need to worry,” the doctor further said.
