Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash always wears a top hat on stage for very sweet reason

Guns N Roses guitarist Slash has a surprising reason why he always wears a hat on stage.

As one of the most recognisable rock stars of all time, Slash has built an iconic look over the years and is rarely seen without his key accessory.

The world-famous rock band are set to headline Glastonbury over the weekend with their mega hits Sweet Child O' Mine and Knockin' On Heaven's Door.

With so much fame, you would think all band members are used to performing in front of such large, adoring crowds.

Yet it isn't the case for Slash - real name Saul Hudson.

Back in 2010, the rocker revealed why he has donned his unique top hat for over three decades.

When asked about the hat by Associated Press, he replied: "You can pull it down, pull your hair down over your face and just sort of hide behind that."

"I've always been a little nervous in front of crowds," he added. "And that made it - made me - feel a lot more comfortable."

The top hate dates back to 1985 and he actually stole one on the day he was set to play a show with Guns N Roses.

He then chose to customise the accessory with a "conch" belt which also nicked from a shop next door.

Slash revealed: "I went into this in store on Melrose (Place) in Los Angeles and saw a top hat, and was like, 'Oh that's looks cool.'

"And we had a show that night. So I was definitely looking for something to wear for the show that evening."

The rocker concluded: "I wore it for that show and it just became the hat I felt really cool in."

Almost 200,000 will descend on Worthy Farm over the weekend to see Arctic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses and Elton John headline the iconic festival.

Other performances will come from Lizzo, Blondie, Fatboy Slim, Fred Again, Kelis, Lewis Capaldi, Måneskin, Raye, Yusuf / Cat Stevens and Wizkid and many more.

Whilst there are also set to be three surprise sets.

According to reports, Britpop band Pulp will play an hour-long set on the Woodsies stage, previously known as the John Peel stage, on Saturday at 6pm.

Whilst Irish musician Hozier will also play a surprise set on the same stage on Friday at 7.30pm.

Fans have also predicted Foo Fighters will take to the stage after the band and the festival shared a series of cryptic clues.

The pseudonym The Churnups appeared on the official line-up and are billed to perform on the Pyramid Stage before Royal Blood on Friday at 6.15pm.

Foo Fighters posted a cryptic handwritten message which read: "Hey. It’s been a while… Now that we’ve returned from our first run of shows, I felt compelled to reach out and thank you all for being there for us.

"Every night, when I see you singing, it makes me sing harder. When I see you screaming, it makes me scream louder.

"When I see your tears, it brings me to tears. And when I see your joy, it brings me joy. But, I see you… and it feels good to see you, churning up these emotions together. Because we’ve always done this together. Time and time again. See you soon, David."
