Gunmen open fire outside nightclub killing one and injuring four in latest US shooting

One person was killed and four others injured when shots were fired outside a nightclub in Houston, Texas early on Sunday morning.

Dozens of shots rang out just after 2am on Sunday morning, with authorities saying that the shooters exited a vehicle and opened fire on people in the car park of the club, Lounge 33.

"It looks like over 50 shots were fired here, which is a very scary situation," said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, according to the Associated Press.

The Houston Chronicle reports that the shooters were wearing ski masks and began firing rifles "in a concentrated area near the front of the club".

A food truck was located nearby the scene of the shooting, Gonzales added, before noting that at least one AK-47 assault rifle was used in the incident.

"This is pretty potent stuff that we are seeing out here on the streets," he said.

Gonzales said that two men and three women were injured in the shooting, with one of the men dying from his wounds - the condition of the other victims is unknown at this time.

All victims are believed to be in their 20s.

Police have yet to identify the shooters and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with any information in relation to the incident.

Houston has seen several shootings over recent times, with some involving high-velocity assault rifles.

In November, police engaged in a shootout with a man reportedly wielding an AK-47 type weapon.

In March 2022, a couple in North Houston were carjacked by a pair of men with AK-47s.
