‘Gundam: The Witch From Mercury’ Gets Its First Teaser Trailer And Will Be Out This October

'Gundam: The Witch from Mercury' will be the next major 'Gundam' anime series. Sunrise

It’s been a while since we heard anything about Gundam: The Witch From Mercury anime series, but now we have a new teaser trailer and the news that it will be released this October.

Apart from the reveal of the new Gundam Aerial, this anime will also be the first time a mainline Gundam anime series will feature a “female hero”.

While I am not entirely sure about that, as Christina Mackenzie piloted the Gundam Alex in Gundam 0080 and many other female protagonists have been a mainstay in Gundam since its inception (I mean even Sayla Mass piloted the original RX-78-2 Gundam in Mobile Suit Gundam), so this feels more like PR posturing rather than anything new.

In addition to the main series, there will also be an anime Prologue that will feature what looks to be earlier mobile suits that lead up to things like the Gundam Aerial.

Naturally, I have a fair few questions about this new series, namely what actual timeline this show will be set in. The designs for the Prologue show make me think that this is a new alternate timeline series, but the Gundam Aerial and the main character give more of a Universal Century vibe. Not least because the Gundam Aerial seems to be sporting something similar to the glowing psycho-frame we saw in Gundam Unicorn.

As with all new Gundam shows, there will be a bunch of model kits released alongside the anime and other toy planned too, with both Robot Damashii and chogokin figures hinted at.

In any case, this new Gundam series will be released in Japan this October and will come back to a Sunday evening time slot, which infers it is aimed at a younger audience.

After the global success of Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans, I am hoping that The Witch from Mercury will do at least as well, but we will have to wait until October to find out.
