Hawaii TSA agents uncovered enough lethal fentanyl to kill 12,000 people after stopping a man carrying a fake gun through airport security.
60-year-old Olaf Seyler was arrested at the Hilo International Airport in Honolulu on a variety of drug-related charges after being stopped by Transportation Security Administration agents. Officials believed Seyler had been carrying a gun in his carry-on luggage.
Further inspection revealed that the gun was an imitation Glock 17 airsoft pistol. However, law enforcement also found a glass smoking pipe with white powdery substances, 27 resealable packets containing a powdery rock-like substance and a digital scale within Seyler's luggage.
He was then held at East Hawaii Detention Facility after being arrested for suspected narcotics possession.
Upon executing a search warrant on his luggage, officials also found 0.63 grams of methamphetamine and an additional .93 grams of fentanyl.
Hawaii News Now reported that the substance within the packets was 24.57 grams of fentanyl. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) states that only 2 milligrams of fentanyl (0.002 grams) can be a lethal dose.
Seyler will reappear in court on Sept. 25.
