Guimaraes' gesture, Pickford's t-rex, Howe's tumble and Joelinton fury - Things you may have missed

Newcastle United secured three valuable points with victory over Everton - running out 3-1 winners.

The Toffees took the lead with Jamaal Lascelles putting the ball into his own net after 36 minutes but redeemed himself within minutes as his header smashed off the bar and then into Mason Holgate who could only watch the ball go over the line.

Newcastle looked comfortable and in front of a sell-out crowd took the lead through Ryan Fraser who tapped home from close range.

January arrival Kieran Trippier made it three with a superb free-kick - and United had other chances to add to their tally.

The win takes United up to 17th and just a point behind Everton.

Here are five things you may have missed.

A T-Rex in the crowd

While all eyes were on the superb flags displays in both the Gallowgate and Leazes Ends, there was one cheeky surprise put on by a fan - who rocked up in a T-Rex costume, in reference to the song sang to Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

No, the Sunderland fan doesn't get a friendly rendition of 'Get It On' or 'Children of the Revolution' but instead, Newcastle fans claim the stopper only has 'little arms.'

Now those who know their dinosaurs will know a T-Rex had terribly small arms - and Newcastle fans have taken that fact and ran with it, often referencing the creature when talking about Pickford.

When the 27-year-old headed up to the goal at the Leazes End, he looked up to see a punter in a T-Rex costume and seem to share a smile at the gesture.

Eddie Howe takes a tumble

You'll very rarely find Eddie Howe anywhere but the touchline - the Toon head coach keen to kick every ball as his players.

Early in the first half, he took a tumble in the technical area after being wiped out by Seamus Coleman.

It came in large part thanks to Joelinton who knocked Coleman off the ball like the Incredible Hulk taking out a small child - the Everton captain was sent a fair distance, only stopping when he collided with Howe.

Howe went head over heels and landed in a heap on the ground - he wasn't injured and shared a smile as he got up.

Newcastle fans sing Rafa Benitez's name

At several points throughout the game, Newcastle fans broke into a chorus of 'Rafael' - paying tribute to their former manager Rafael Benitez who was shown the door by Everton's board last month.

It was always a risk by Benitez, the one-time Liverpool manager, to take the job at Goodison Park, and it ultimately backfired but some Newcastle fans felt he was shown a lack of respect by the Everton fans.

Still clearly very popular on Tyneside, they made their feelings known.

Bruno Guimaraes gets the crowd going

Newcastle's marquee January signing may have only got a brief cameo - but as cameos go, it was rather good.

He showed strength, purpose and we saw some of that passing ability that so many have spoken about as he won the ball and set Allan Saint-Maximin down the left.

And it was this move where we saw him do something that really got the fans going - as Saint-Maximin forced a corner, Guimaraes headed towards the crowd at the Gallowgate and threw his arms repeatedly up in the air as a request for more noise.

The fans instantly responded and the noise, already quite a level, ramped up even more.

The moment which showed Everton's nerves

Late in the second half with Newcastle looking for a third - urged on by the crowd, they had Everton rattled.

It was summed up by a two-minute segment of madness by Everton - as Pickford sliced a clearance up in the air and defender Jarrad Branthwaite attempted to recover only for him to volley over his own head for a corner.

It was met by great cheers from the Newcastle fans who were really enjoying themselves.

Joelinton's fury

The Brazilian has been a transformation under Eddie Howe and one thing that has shone through is his aggression.

At the end of the game, he had to be held back by his teammates - Fabian Schar in particular - after Dele Alli had left his foot in as both men went for the ball.

The tackle left Joelinton on the floor, the final whistle went, and Joelinton jumped to his feet - he went straight for Alli, and there was a coming together.

Even after the final whistle, Joelinton was still raging - pointing out to the referee the mark left on his shin from Alli's tackle.
