Guglielmo Vicario to undergo Tottenham medical today as £17m transfer nears

Tottenham are closing in on the first new signing of the Ange Postecoglou era, with Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario due to undergo a medical at Spurs on Monday.

Spurs have agreed a deal worth around £17million to sign Vicario and the 26-year-old Italian arrived in London on Sunday to finalise his move.

His arrival will pave the way for the departure of Spurs captain Hugo Lloris, who is seeking a new challenge after 11 years and more than 400 appearances for the club.

Spurs have targeted Vicario after cooling their interest in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Brentford demanded £40m for Raya and Spurs were unwilling to meet their asking price.

Vicario was called up to the Italy squad for their Nations League fixtures this month but was an unused substitute in games against Spain and the Netherlands and is yet to receive his first international cap.

He has risen through Italy's lower divisions and made 32 appearances in Serie A this season, as Empoli finished 14th.

Vicario will be the first new arrival at Spurs since Postecoglou was appointed, though they have made Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move from Juventus permanent.

Spurs could also sign Clement Lenglet on a permanent basis following his loan spell last season, with Barcelona pushing to offload the defender. Sources in Spain claim Barcelona want around £8.5m for Lenglet.
