CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Guardians' star pitcher Shane Bieber will be undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery after a promising start to the 2024 season.

Bieber, who is considered the ace of the Guardians' pitching staff, had been performing well before the decision was made for him to undergo the surgery. The procedure, known as Tommy John surgery, is a common operation for pitchers that involves reconstructing the ulnar collateral ligament in the elbow.
