'GTA VI' Rumor: 60FPS Performance Mode Is Coming to All Platforms—What to Expect?

"Grand Theft Auto VI" is locked in for its release later this year, but a new rumor now claims that a 60FPS "Performance Mode" is coming alongside the game.

Speculation around the game's frame rate first started gaining traction back in 2025, with most fans initially assuming that any 60 FPS mode would be limited exclusively to the PS5 Pro rather than offered across the board.

'GTA VI' Rumor: 60FPS Performance Mode

The claim comes from the Polish podcast "Rock and Borys," where one of the hosts said they spoke with a source described as very close to Rockstar Games. According to that source, "GTA VI" will include two separate graphics modes, a 30 FPS quality mode and a 60 FPS performance mode.

Host Borys Niespielak has previously built credibility in the space, having accurately revealed "The Witcher 3's" upcoming DLC ahead of its official announcement, which adds some weight to this latest claim.

The hosts also pointed to a previous listing on the Polish MediaMarkt website, which reportedly referenced both performance and quality modes in the game's official product description.

Since retailers typically receive these descriptions directly from publishers, some have taken the listing as added evidence supporting the rumor. However, it should still be treated with caution until Rockstar confirms anything officially.

'GTA VI' Performance Mode Coming to All Platforms

According to the same source, Rockstar is reportedly still working out a technically feasible way to implement the 60 FPS mode.

Because of the difficulty involved in maintaining that frame rate in such a graphically demanding game, the mode may not be ready at launch and could instead arrive through a post-release update.

The Xbox Series S, meanwhile, is said to currently support only the 30 FPS mode, though the source noted that Rockstar may not have completely ruled out adding a performance option for the console down the line.

According to GameRant, achieving stable 60 FPS in "GTA VI" presents a real challenge given the scale of its open world. A former Rockstar developer has even suggested the game might be better suited to 30 FPS overall, since that frame rate allows for a more detailed and densely populated environment.

Unlike many other AAA titles, simply lowering graphical settings may not be enough to hit 60 FPS here, since the game's heavy NPC count and detailed environments put significant strain on both the CPU and GPU.

What to Expect From 'GTA VI'

For comparison, "Grand Theft Auto V" offers three separate graphics modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X with the Enhanced Editions. This includes Fidelity Mode for native 4K with ray tracing at 30 FPS, Performance Mode for upscaled 4K at a steady 60 FPS, and Performance RT Mode, which combines ray tracing with 60 FPS at upscaled 4K.

If the current "GTA VI" rumor holds, the sequel would only feature two modes rather than three, and would notably skip a dedicated ray tracing option for its performance setting. This tradeoff could be because "GTA VI's" world is more demanding compared to its predecessor.

"GTA VI" is set in a modern take on Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida, following protagonists Jason and Lucia as they navigate the world of organized crime.

Rockstar has confirmed the game for a November 19 release across PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with preorders already live and pricing set at $79.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition.
