Rockstar has started work a new iteration in the Grand Theft Auto series, although the studio has yet to settle on a location for GTA 6 .
This comes according to a report from Techradar, citing an insider source.
The source claims the studio at one point were considering a GTA game set in Tokyo, but was put off by the "problematic" road system and the difficulties of moving the game outside of the USA.
Rockstar was allegedly considering GTA Tokyo around the time of GTA Vice City , so it’s likely the developers opted for the LA-aping San Andreas instead.
That game came out over a decade ago (oh god), and all iterations in the series since then have been set in the US. Could Rockstar be tempted to stray outside of North America for GTA 6 ?
There are no firm details about the next game's location, but a US-based setting is likely. Aside from an expansion for the original Grand Theft Auto set in London, all games in the series have been based in America.
While a London-based return would be brilliant, the GTA atmosphere is very much entwined with its satirical version of the US. Moving location would involve a shift in tone, let alone car models and fake brands.

GTA 6 development will be at an early stage, and with GTA Online going strong it’ll likely be a couple of years before Rockstar is ready to bring out a sequel to GTA 5 .
A recent report in Forbes suggested that the success of GTA Online mean that GTA 6 could be delayed indefinitely, as micro-transactions in the online game are earning the company more money than purchases of the offline version.
The departure of former Rockstar boss Leslie Benzies, whose footprints are all over the Grand Theft Auto franchise, is also likely to have a significant impact on how GTA 6 will be developed.
Benzies is currently suing Rockstar, claiming that he was effectively forced out of the company and is owed $150m (£105m) in unpaid royalties.
Closer at hand is the rumour that Red Dead Redemption 2 will make its public debut at E3 2016.
Red Dead Redemption was a fantastic game and received heaps of critical praise. The game is itself a follow up to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver , so there's certainly room for a sequel in some form.
Whether Rockstar chooses to continue Red Dead Redemption 's story, or focus on a completely different set of characters, remains to be seen.
