GTA 6 reportedly getting a disc edition after launch in December 2026

Grand Theft Auto 6 may not stay digital-only for long. According to a new wave of reports, Rockstar Games is reportedly preparing a proper GTA 6 disc-based edition for December 2026, roughly a month after the game’s initial launch window.

The conversation started after the details were reported by the Polish outlet ppe.pl, known for reporting on past physical game releases pretty accurately. They pointed to insider claims suggesting the disc release would follow later in the year.

The first wave of GTA 6 physical copies at launch will arrive in a boxed version, including only a download code instead of a disc. This hasn’t gone well with fans and has received significant community backlash.

So, if the reports turn out to be true, those who prefer traditional physical media may have to wait a little longer for the version they actually want. Rockstar could be using the initial launch period to reduce leaks and control distribution before moving to a more conventional physical release later on.

For a game as huge as GTA 6, the format of the release matters more than one might imagine. Physical collectors, fans with limited internet access, and players who simply like owning a disc will always prefer a proper physical release.

Take all this information with a grain of salt, as none of this has been officially confirmed by Rockstar at the time of writing. It still needs to be seen whether Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive will clarify the physical release plan closer to launch. What Rockstar has already confirmed about the price GTA 6 will retail for and the reason they’re locking stores behind deluxe editions.

If they do release a delayed disc edition, it would at least give collectors a way to own GTA 6 in the format they want.
