GTA 6 Extended Look dominates Netflix with 31.1 million views

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look has continued the game’s record-breaking run, with the latest showcase pulling in 31.1 million views on Netflix and topping the streaming platform’s English-language film chart.

Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 has already demonstrated its enormous online audience through its YouTube trailers. Netflix announced on Sept. 2 that GTA 6: An Extended Look topped its English-language film list with 31.1 million views.

The 27-minute presentation also reached No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries tracked globally, showing that interest in Rockstar’s upcoming game extends far beyond traditional gaming audiences.

The showcase premiered on Netflix in a first-of-its-kind release for the platform. Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, the Extended Look provides the most detailed look yet at the much-anticipated continuation of the GTA series.

Its Netflix performance also put it comfortably ahead of the second-place title on the English film chart. The Whisper Man, featuring Adam Scott, recorded 23.2 million views, leaving the GTA 6 showcase nearly 8 million views ahead of it.

The Netflix debut was only part of the release strategy. Rockstar initially gave Netflix subscribers access to the Extended Look before making the presentation available on YouTube six hours later. This allowed the studio to turn what would normally be a game showcase into a major streaming event.

The latest numbers are particularly impressive when viewed alongside the records already set by the game’s trailers. GTA 6‘s first trailer surpassed 90 million views on YouTube within 24 hours, setting a record for the most-viewed non-music video debut on the platform at the time. Trailer 2 later eclipsed that performance, becoming an even bigger YouTube event and further demonstrating the scale of anticipation surrounding the game.

The Extended Look has shown that the GTA 6 audience is not limited to YouTube or gaming platforms. More than 31 million Netflix views for a 27-minute presentation suggests Rockstar can attract a massive mainstream audience simply by giving viewers another look at the game.

The sequel follows GTA V, which Netflix itself described as holding the record for the biggest entertainment launch of all time, a title soon to be passed on to its successor. With GTA 6 continuing to break viewership records before release, Rockstar’s next game is shaping up to be another enormous entertainment event worldwide.
