'GTA 6' Digital Launch Set at Midnight Worldwide; Fans Already Plan New Zealand Location Hack

"Grand Theft Auto VI" is not going to launch at the same moment around the world, and dedicated fans have already figured out how to use that to their advantage.

Regional PlayStation Store listings have revealed a staggered rollout that hands one specific country a massive head start over the rest of the world.

'GTA 6' Midnight Launch Times Revealed

Fan site GTAVice.net dug through regional PlayStation Store data across 63 countries and found 15 separate unlock windows for "Grand Theft Auto VI." This latest discovery confirms that the game will launch at local midnight in each region rather than at one simultaneous global moment.

Rockstar has not officially confirmed these exact times, and they remain subject to change closer to launch.

According to the compiled schedule, New Zealand unlocks first at 11:00 UTC on November 18, which is midnight local time heading into November 19. Australia, Japan, and South Korea follow a few hours later, with India, the United Kingdom, and Central Europe unlocking throughout the day as different time zones reach their own midnight.

The United States and Canada hit their unlock windows at midnight Eastern Time, while Mexico and parts of Central America come last at 06:00 UTC on November 19, creating a gap of nearly 19 hours between the earliest and latest regions.

Fans Plan to Use New Zealand Hack

That geographic quirk has already sparked plenty of chatter among fans eager to jump in as early as possible. Since New Zealand sits at UTC+13, it consistently reaches midnight before nearly anywhere else on the planet, a pattern that has played out during other major PS5 launches in the past as well, IGN reported.

Xbox players have a considerably easier path to taking advantage of this, since switching a console's system region to New Zealand is a simple settings change, the same trick that has worked for previous staggered releases.

PlayStation owners face a much higher bar, requiring an entirely separate account registered to New Zealand and funded using a New Zealand payment method or gift card. This is required since Sony does not permit accounts created specifically to bypass regional pricing or release windows, and flagged accounts risk suspension.

Preloading is expected to open on November 12 for both digital pre-orders and physical code in box editions, letting players have the full game installed and ready before their region's specific unlock time arrives.

What to Expect From 'GTA VI'

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has already pushed back on separate rumors suggesting "Grand Theft Auto VI" might launch digital only. The executive previously confirmed to Variety directly that a digital-only release "is not the plan" when asked about earlier reports claiming physical copies could be delayed into 2027 over leak concerns.

Whether players unlock the game through New Zealand's early window or wait for their own region's midnight, "Grand Theft Auto VI" launches November 19, as a fully single-player experience. Fans will get the chance to step into the shoes of either Jason or Lucia and venture on through Vice City and the surrounding region of Leonida.

With story details, character reveals, and major plot moments confirmed to follow a chapter-based structure, players hoping to avoid spoilers circulating online could benefit from New Zealand's early access due to geographic advantage.
