One of the most popular and controversial video games of all time Grand Theft Auto will be getting an 8th entre in the mainline series.
The last title, GTA 5 was released back in 2013 and has won multiple awards and accolades. As of November 2021, GTA 5 had sold a staggering 155 million copies making it one of the best selling games of all time.
GTA 5 isn't done selling either, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions due for release on March 15, this nearly decade-old title is still an incredibly popular game that still sells remarkably well.
The online component, GTA Online is also incredibly popular with new content and missions added frequently, the most recent update was released on December 2021 called "The Contract" features the return of Grand Theft Auto V protagonist Franklin Clinton.
Other than the Grand Theft Auto titles Rockstar is well known for their incredibly cinematic and well-polished games like Red Red Redemption, L.A. Noir and the Max Payne series.
Many fans were disappointed with Rockstars most recent release GTA Trilogy, a remaster of classic titles GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas. The title was critically panned for its poor performance and lacklustre models and gameplay tweaks.
In a strange move for the usually secretive gaming giant, Rockstar today confirmed on their Newswire blog that they will begin working on the next entry in the series, GTA 6, but no further information like release dates, features was divulged.
In the blogpost developer, Rockstar Games confirmed that:
"With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details."
It's safe to say that this game will make full use of the next-gen systems the Xbox Series X and PS5's enhanced graphical capabilities but not much is known and it's doubtful that much more information will be known about the sequel for quite some time.
