GST Council: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema opposes any hike in GST on educational products

CHANDIGARH: Terming the proposal to hike Goods and Sales Tax (GST) on goods related to education a step against the interests of the students, Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday opposed the move to revise GST on pencil sharpeners to 18 percent from the existing slab of 12 percent.

Cheema was participating in the 48th meeting of the GST Council chaired by union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman through video conferencing on Saturday. He added that his view was endorsed by the representatives of other states, following which a decision in this regard was deferred.
