United Nations envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg held talks in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday with Diplomatic Adviser to the United Arab Emirates President Dr. Anwar Gargash.
They tackled the latest developments in the Yemeni crisis and efforts to reach a ceasefire to pave the way for a sustainable political solution that would end the conflict and suffering of the people.
Gargash highlighted the UAE’s support for Yemen’s people and Presidential Leadership Council, as well as Grundberg’s efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire and facilitate serious dialogue aimed at resolving the crisis in the country and achieve stability and prosperity, reported the UAE state news agency (WAM).
Gargash also commended the key role of Saudi Arabia in helping resolve the crisis.
Grundberg discussed the outcomes of his recent meetings with relevant local, regional and international parties, lauding the UAE’s related role.
The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY) tweeted that Grundberg discussed with Emirati officials, including Minister of State Khalifa Almarar, “the need for concerted regional support to reach a sustainable political settlement in Yemen that can secure a future of lasting peace, security and development.”
Also in the UAE, the envoy met with deputy head of the Presidential Leadership Council Aidarous al-Zubaidi.
They tackled efforts aimed at improving living conditions in Yemen and launching inter-Yemeni dialogue to reach a permanent solution to the conflict.
Grundberg had carried out a tour of the region, visiting Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen. He also visited Russia. His efforts focused on renewing the nationwide truce that expired in October.
