Donald Trump is not particularly recognised for his respect towards women. Throughout his second term as President of the United States and before that, he has made a series of derogatory, offensive, and concerning remarks about women.
Recently, Trump made it clear on two occasions how he perceives women: as individuals who are beneath him and whom he can always insult. A resurfaced video showing Trump expressing frustration over a question from a female journalist while aboard Air Force One is gaining considerable attention on social media. In the footage, after Bloomberg’s Catherine Lucey inquires about his reluctance to release the controversial Epstein Files and asks if there is “nothing incriminating in the files,” Trump points at her in an aggressive manner and says: “Quiet. Quiet, piggy.” His remarks towards Lucey have received widespread backlash, with many pointing out a recurring pattern in his treatment of women.
Another recent incident that highlights Trump’s views on women occurred when a female journalist asked him a controversial question while Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was visiting him at the White House. During the event, ABC News correspondent Mary Bruce courageously asked Trump why he was waiting for Congress to release the Epstein Files instead of doing it himself right now. Trump showed considerable irritation and lashed out at the journalist, stating, “You know, it’s not the question that I mind. It’s your attitude. I think you are a terrible reporter… You are a terrible person and a terrible reporter.”
He further stated that he had little to do with Jeffrey Epstein, mentioning that he “threw him” out of his club “many years ago” because he believed Epstein was a “sick pervert.” He also reiterated his assertion that the Epstein case was a Democrat “hoax” and claimed that the Democrats received money from Epstein, while he did not. He continued to criticise ABC News and told Bruce, who represented the news organisation, “your crappy company is one of the perpetrators.”
Trump’s remarks about female journalists in both incidents have justifiably drawn criticism, with many individuals on X (formerly Twitter) joining the conversation. One person wrote:
“It’s funny how shocked people are over the lack of respect and tact toward female reporters and journalists. This is the “grab em by the pu**y” guy. I mean seriously. This is who he is and always has been. And we gave him the highest office in our country. TWICE.”
Another wrote:
“Trump’s relentless barrage of sexist insults against female reporters isn’t leadership, it’s the tantrum of a fragile bully terrified of strong women holding him accountable.”
