United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is facing mounting pressure to cease weapons sales to Israel following the tragic killing of World Central Kitchen workers, including three British nationals, in Gaza by Israeli forces. A Conservative Member of Parliament and Chair of the UK’s Foreign Affairs Select Committee emphasized the necessity to suspend arm sales, stating that UK arm export licenses mandate compliance with international humanitarian law.
Furthermore, around 600 legal experts and lawyers penned an open letter to Sunak urging the UK to halt arms sales to Israel, citing concerns about potential violations of international law. In a recent phone call, US President Joe Biden conveyed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu his dissatisfaction with the humanitarian situation in Gaza and warned of potential consequences if the crisis is not addressed promptly.
The Conservative Member of Parliament described Biden's call as a potential turning point in the conflict, expressing disappointment that it took six months for the international community to exert influence on Israel's actions in the ongoing conflict.
