Groups and performers invited to get involved in Hamilton's summer gala events

Performers across Lanarkshire are being encouraged to take to the stage this summer in a series of exciting events.

Hamilton town centre will host three fun days for locals young and old to enjoy in the coming months.

After the success of the town's Christmas and Easter markets, Hamilton Business Improvement District (BID) has also announced the return of the popular street stalls format.

The events have been a great way to involve local businesses and the wider community in a vibrant atmosphere on Quarry Street.

During this year's school summer holidays, locals who are part of a group such as dancing or singing, or even those individuals wanting to show off their awesome talent in the town centre, are all urged to get in touch to be part of the fun.

The first event will be the Mela Celebration on July 30. This is a community celebration of culture, difference and diversity featuring performances with a multi-cultural twist bringing music, dance and vibrancy to the town.

Then on August 6, Quarry Street will host a Fashion Fun Day which will be fun celebration featuring fashion, hair, make up from the Businesses Improvement area.

Music, dance, and family entertainment will also feature at this great fun day out for all the family.

And Saturday, August 13 sees the much-anticipated Summer Gala event take place in the town.

It is planned to go ahead right at back-to-school peak Saturday, bringing back the hugely popular Easter Gala format, bursting with entertainment, community performers, participatory art and much more.

As always, plenty of family fun will be on offer including face painters, crafts, and participatory arts all for free.

Hamilton BID have also teamed up with Hang On Climbing centre to provide a free kids climbing experience on the scheduled event days.

Manager of Hamilton BID Malcolm Thomas-Harley met with some of the local acts already involved in this year's summer events schedule this week.

He says he is looking forward to seeing the local community come together once more for a season of fun.

Malcolm added: "It's really exciting because many of these events we've never done before.

"We're looking forward to the colour and vibrancy of it all on the street. It will be like a carnival type atmosphere.

"We're all gearing up to it all now and have lots of applications for market vendors too so it will be great for the local businesses.

"When we take over Quarry street – this becomes a space for our local community to enjoy the performances, shop the market and local shops.

"It’s also a space for us to showcase Hamilton’s performers and local talent."

If you are a performer or are part of a community group in town you can get in touch if you would like to participate here.

And if you are a market trader, you can click here to apply for a stall.
