Ground breaking ceremony for new Auchencairn community garden project

A ground breaking ceremony took place on a new community garden project in Auchencairn yesterday.

Over the next few months, an area of land near Balliol Court will be transformed thanks to £9,500 funding from the National Lottery.

Balliol Court Tenants Association’s Jayne Burton said: “There will be a flagstone path going up to a seating area, a couple of allotment areas and a wildflower area to make it a quiet place to sit with wild flowers rather than bedding flowers.

“The ground work will be completed this year but its not going to be until next year that we get the planting done.”

National Lottery community fund Scotland chair, Kate Still, said: “National Lottery funding can make amazing things happen in local communities across the country.

“This project, delivered by Balliol Court Tenants Association, is a great example of community activity in action, showing just what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause or to help others.

“National Lottery players can be proud to know that the money they raise is helping to support this vital work to help communities thrive.”
