Griffith Mile Avenue announces five year partnership with DCU for annual road race

Griffith Mile Avenue has announced a five year partnership with Dublin City University (DCU) to ensure the long term future of the unique road race which takes place in Dublin city each year.

The race is a joint initiative by All Hallows Area Association and Marino Athletics Club in association with Athletics Ireland, proudly supported by Dublin City University, Dublin City Council Sport & Wellbeing Partnership which brings the road race to the city each year.

DCU were seen to be the perfect perfect fit having been supporters of the event since its return in 2019 and with the participation of elite UCD athletes in the race.

Daire Keogh, President of Dublin City University said "DCU is a place-based university, and as proud members of the North Dublin community we are delighted to commit our long-term support to this fantastic event.

The Griffith Avenue Mile is a unique fixture in the Irish athletics calendar that reflects our University’s passion for sports participation, inclusion, and sporting excellence.”

The Griffith Mile Avenue is returning for the third time since its revival in 2019 and the event goes from strength to strength each year. This year is set to be the biggest race yet with 2,000 runners and walkers of all abilities taking part which is an increased capacity of 30% in comparison to last year.

Race Ambassador, Olympian and former indoor mile world record holder Eamon Coghlan said: "The Griffith Avenue Mile is a great event for runners of all abilities.

It provides the opportunity to test yourself over a middle distance, while enjoying the surroundings of one of Dublin’s iconic avenues. As any participant from previous years will attest there is a tremendous atmosphere made up of fun and a bit of healthy competition for those who want it."

The event is taking place on September 17 and tickets can be found on the Griffith Mile Avenue website.
