One Facebook post read: "So the cemetery thieves continue. The strip light weighted down on my mum's headstone has been stolen. Scruffs. Go buy your own things instead of stealing from decent people who are grieving. Where’s their moral compass?! Disgusting behaviour. Can’t have anything nice with nasty disgusting human beings like that around. Like Liam Neeson said - I will find you! There’s a particular part of the light which is undeniably ours. So put it back or I’ll find you and report you."
The post received many comments, with other people also claiming to have had sentimental items stolen from the graveyard.
One comment said: "Absolutely disgusting. I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this, I had put a gift on my friend's grave up there and it’s gone too! There are just no words for it"
Another person claims the resting place of their loved one had items taken and said: "We had the gold coloured tops off the flower pots pinched from my mother in law's grave, just the gold coloured tops (it is near the old Chantry end) lots of them have been taken. They left the other part, somebody must know if these tops are being weighed in for scrap metal. It's disgusting."
Many comments condemned the actions of someone stealing from a grave, one said: "Should be ashamed of themselves robbing from graves, disgusting."
A St Helens Borough Council spokesperson “We are appalled by these thefts and our thoughts go out to the affected families.
“Patrols of particular areas of the cemetery recently targeted by theft will be carried out by security - and we would encourage families to keep a log of any items taken from the graves of loved ones which can be passed onto our onsite bereavement team.
“We would urge anyone who has any information on those responsible for these abhorrent acts of crime to contact the bereavement team and Merseyside Police.”
