Grieving East Kilbride gran left suicidal after £19k Universal Credit debt demand bungle

A grieving East Kilbride gran was left suicidal after being handed a debt of almost £20,000 by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

Christina Goss, 62, was classed as having long-term sickness due to her severe memory loss and depression, but was told by the DWP that she was not entitled to claim the benefit.

She made a successful application for the state assistance after being deemed to have 'limited capacity for work-related activities' and was approved in January 2020 without issue, the Daily Record reports.
