Grieving daughter devastated after thieves in Arboretum steal mum's designer bags

A grieving daughter was left devastated after thieves stole high-end branded bags from her car while she was away in Barcelona. Olivia Becks, who lost her mother through multi-organ failure following a long battle with illness, said the valuable items have huge sentimental value.

The 23-year-old is a final year Broadcasting student at Nottingham Trent University. She said she was keeping her mum's collection of bags in her car boot because she believed it was safer than keeping them in the house. "I live with other people too and it is a student house," she said. "People go in and out quite frequently."

She left to go to Barcelona for the weekend and it was shortly after she returned on Monday (May 9) when she discovered that her car's window had been smashed - and some valuable items were missing.

The total loss is estimated to be over £7000 including a collection of designer bags and other high-brand items. The items had belonged to her mum who passed away on Boxing Day last year.

Melissa Fallon was 49-years-old when she died on the morning of December 26. Alongside the bag collection, Ms Becks was also left Christmas presents that she has not felt able to unwrap. They were also in the car.

She said: "I haven't been able to open those yet because it was just been too soon. So I don't even know what was in there. I realised that it all had been taken."

Ms Becks parked her car on Waverly Street, just opposite Nottingham High School. She reported the incident to the police shortly after she realised what had happened.

Damage to the car window could also cost £350 to repair. She is now appealing for anyone who has seen the bags to get in touch with her. She added: "It is like they have taken away pieces of her. I am just devastated."

Inspector Paul Fergusson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers are investigating a reported theft from a car in Waverly Street, Nottingham, that occurred at some point between Thursday 5 and Monday 9 May.

"We understand how upsetting incidents like this are for victims and are currently working to track down the person or people responsible. To this end we would like to hear form anyone with information about this case – particularly if they have been offered a handbag for sale from an unexpected source.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 296 of 9 May 2022.
