A commando of the Greyhounds, the anti-naxal force of the State police, died of electric shock after he accidentally came in contact with a live wire, suspected to be laid by poachers to kill wild animals, during a combing operation in Nasturpalli forest area of Kataram mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district shortly after Sunday midnight.
The deceased commando was identified as A Praveen, 30, a native of Adilabad district.
He was part of a Greyhounds squad that was out in the Nasturpalli forest area on a regular combing operation, sources said.
The security in the entire Kataram and Mahadevpur mandals bordering Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district has been stepped up in view of the proposed visit of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues to the Medigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) on February 13, sources added.
The Kataram police have registered a case and are investigating.
On learning about the tragic news, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed his condolences and extended heartfelt sympathies to the grieving family members of constable Praveen.
