Greggs opens its third 'Tasty' cafe inside Primark store - complete with sausage roll swing

Greggs and Primark fans will be pleased to hear that the baked goods chain has opened its third 'Tasty by Greggs' cafe inside one of the fashion retailer's stores. Located in Newcastle, inside the Primark store on Northumberland Street, the cafe - which opened yesterday (March 22) - comes complete with a sausage roll swing and doughnut inspired seating areas.

And for those who enjoy snapping away for Instagram and TikTok, there are also booths to dine in situated under an iconic Tyne Bridge structure - as well as an interactive colourful Greggs phone booth. The very first “Tasty by Greggs” cafe opened its doors to the public in Birmingham February last year.

The second cafe appeared a for months later inside London's flagship Oxford Street East site. Greggs has said it will be launching more “Tasty by Greggs” over the course of the year, as reported by the Mirror.

The next one is scheduled to take home in Bristol in May, with others popping up in June across Liverpool and Leeds. Commenting on the arrival of the Newcastle cafe, Tony Rowson, Property Director at Greggs, described it as 'another milestone moment for us'.

He said: “Following the success of our first two ‘Tasty by Greggs’ cafes in Birmingham and London last year, the opening of our third café in Newcastle, the home of Greggs, marks another milestone moment for us as we continue to focus our efforts on new on-the-go locations where people work, shop and travel.”

Tim Kelly, Director of New Business Development at Primark added: “We’re thrilled with the success of our partnership with Greggs to date – ranging from three sell-out collections to now three brilliant cafes, we’re constantly on the lookout for new ways to inspire and excite customers.

“We’re excited to be extending our partnership to new locations including Newcastle so more customers can visit two of the best brands on the British high street in one go.”

The news comes after Greggs announced plans to open 150 new branches this year, as well as refurbishing another 150 and relocate 40 of its shops to larger sites. On top of this, the bakery giant will trial a 24-hour drive thru service and a further 300 shops will see their opening hours extended to 9pm this year.

Greggs opened a record 186 new shops in 2022 and closed 39 sites, taking its total store number to 2,328.
