Greggs obsessed couple thrilled with wedding cake covered in sausage rolls and doughnuts

A quirky couple chose a Greggs-themed wedding cake for their special day decorated with sausage rolls.

Bride Becca wanted to surprise her husband with all his favourite Greggs treats atop the three tier cake – including a pink jammy doughnut, cheese melts and the iconic sausage roll.

Talented bakers then whipped up the design for the happy couple and the result was a magnificent double-take creation.

Business owner Zara Neild, 37, was tasked with making the themed sponge after receiving a message from a bride-to-be at Zara Cakes in Manchester.

She said: "We had a last-minute request for a three-tier Greggs-themed cake on November 12 for a wedding taking place on December 3.

"The bride asked us to include all of her husband's favourite Greggs products including sausage rolls, sausage, bean and cheese melts, a Mexican chicken sandwich, a cinnamon roll with icing and a cherry, a pink jammy doughnut, and a ring doughnut.

"Amy, our head cake decorator, made everything on the cake totally edible, including the Greggs paper bags that some of the bakes were in.

"She outdid herself. People thought the pasties were real."

Zara and her team spent four days perfecting the cake.

She explained: "In our store, we're all proper foodies so food-themed cakes are our forte.

"We make all the sugar work in one day, the cakes get baked on another day, and the following day we ice it.

"On the final day, everything is pulled together and decorated."

The cake consisted of a chocolate-flavoured bottom layer, a vanilla and white chocolate middle-layer, and a gluten-free lemon top-tier for the newlyweds to enjoy.

Zara added: "The Greggs product decorations were very heavy, and it was challenging for the team to be able to get them to stick, stay on, and then make it to the venue.

"However, they managed to do such an incredible job of decorating the cake.

"The bride-to-be was blown away when she came to pick up the surprise wedding cake and told us afterwards it was the talk of the wedding.

"We were all really happy with the final product."

Becca said the couple were not planning on having a wedding cake because they wanted everything on their special day to be meaningful to them.

She added: "We didn't just want to have a cake because we felt like that's what we were supposed to do.

"However, three weeks before the wedding, my dad sent me a picture of a cake with a steak bake on top and it really got me thinking.

"Because of how much my husband loves Greggs, and the fact it's a running joke, I decided to organise a surprise Greggs-themed cake for him.

"I'm so glad I did it because we both genuinely loved it so much.

"It was better than I ever could have expected. I don't know how they managed to make a Greggs cake look so pretty.

"My husband loved it and it really made him laugh. Our guests loved it too and couldn't believe it.

"Everyone was clamouring to take pictures of our cake."
