Primark’s recent association with British bakery chain Greggs has proved a massive hit with shoppers, with their brand new clothing line selling out in a matter of minutes in some stores.
The high street favourite launched a limited-edition range of T-shirts, tracksuits, sweatshirts, hoodies, trainers, hats and more, emblazoned with Greggs branding, on Saturday 19 February, but the weekend wasn’t even half over when some shops reported they had completely sold out.
One shopper on Twitter said: “Primark sold out of Greggs stuff before I got any.”
Another said: “They had advertised only 60 stores would have it. I went to the Reading store which opens at 9am and most sold out by 9.30.”
And another unhappy customer added: “Nearest store that’s selling them is a train ride away. Bet sold out when I can get there!”
Now, some of the canny shoppers lucky enough to get their hands on the new lines are cashing in on ebay, with prices going through the roof on certain items – Greggs hoodies are being listed for £140 on ebay, over seven times Primark’s shop price of £18.
Tracksuits are listed at £130, bucket hats at £99.99, while the £16 Greggs trainers are being sold for £99 by some vendors on the popular shopping website.
The ebay sellers hawking their wares for inflated prices have come in for criticism, with one person on Twitter saying: "I don't know what I am more scared of, the Russia/Ukraine situation or living in a world where the Greggs x Primark merchandise sells out and people list it on ebay with huge markups."
