Greg Taylor Celtic issue revealed as playing through the pain barrier in Treble quest means he sits out for Scotland

Gutsy Greg Taylor has been playing through the pain barrier to help keep Celtic’s Treble charge going.

The left-back has been struggling with a lower leg issue but has been managing it in a bid to help Ange Postecoglou’s side get through this vital stage of the season. The 25-year-old has nailed down the left-back slot at Celtic and has been a big player for the champions.

Taylor has been troubled by the injury for a couple of weeks and the Hoops medical team have been keeping on top of it and giving him regular treatment. The defender was left out of the midweek league win over Hearts to make sure he was fit for the weekend Scottish Cup quarter-final win over the same opponents. Celtic play Hibs at the weekend and after that it should allow Taylor to rest up before the return against Ross County on April 2nd.

Celtic already have the League Cup in the bag and are chasing down the title and the Scottish Cup. That is the reason why Taylor has been omitted from Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for this month’s European Championship qualifiers with Cyprus and Spain.

Scotland are well-covered at left-back with Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney and so it is seen as a good time to let Taylor get some much needed recovery time in. Clarke, speaking after Wednesday’s squad announcement, confirmed: “I have had a chat with Greg. It is really a Celtic issue, more than for me to comment on. He is carrying a little injury.

“He will probably benefit from a rest rather than coming away with the national team. Celtic should elaborate on that a little bit.”
