Greg Taylor insists Ange Postecoglou doesn’t need to chase the bright lights down south – because he’s already at a big club.
The Hoops squad have ignored the heat around the gaffer and the Leeds United job and it has been business as usual ahead of the Scottish Cup clash with St Mirren. Taylor said: “He’s in a big job here. We’re a massive club and I’m sure he loves it because we all love playing under him and playing for this club, so that’s all we focus on. We don’t focus on outer noise or these things. We focus on what we can control and that’s improving every day, trying to find our best levels in training and if we do that it means we’ll be ready for the game at the weekend.
“That’s all we’ve done this week. We all love playing under the manager and we’re all trying to impress him every day. Of course, we’ve won a lot of games and done it playing attacking football but I think there’s also a lot of development we can do in the coming months and years. Hopefully that’s what we will do.”
Taylor has been one of the stars of the season and admits he’s enjoying linking up with Daizen Maeda – even if he’d need his car to catch the speed merchant.
He said: “I love playing with Daizen. He’s such a top-quality player. The runs he makes for me are unbelievable. He is probably the hardest-working player. He’s willing to do all sides of the game and he chips in with goals.
“He really is a top player and I love playing with him. I’d need to be in the car to keep up with Daizen to be fair! But if I can try to play passes and get him on the ball that’s what I’ll try to do.”
Taylor is eying Cup glory after going from ecstasy to agony in last season’s competition. The full-back scored the opener against Rangers in the Hampden semi-final but was on the end of an extra-time defeat.
He said: “I wouldn’t say that’s a driving factor for us. It’s trying to improve. Every competition you enter you want to win. That’s the standard the badge demands. We know in cup competitions you have to win because you only get one chance on the day and this match is no different.”
Taylor is wary of a Saints side who are the only outfit to beat Celts in Scotland this season. He said: “We take no team lightly. St Mirren are having a great season. They defeated us but even regardless of the result
previously we know it will be a difficult game.”
