Greg Taylor and Celtic physio 'targeted' as Police launch probe into Ibrox missile throwing incidents

Greg Taylor and a Celtic physio were reportedly targeted by a ‘metal object’ during the Ne’erday Old Firm clash at Ibrox which has resulted in a police probe. Parkhead staff are said to have told the match officials about the incident with the missile coming from the home end while the Scotland full back - on the Rangers books as a kid - received treatment for the injury which forced him off in the 2-2 derby.

The Scottish Sun report that it was a bottle opener thrown at the player and medical man and Police Scotland are looking into the incident as well as videos that appear to show a bottle being thrown into the small band of away fans, with footage emerging of a fan left with a bloodied head. A statement issued by Police Scotland said: “We are aware of items thrown during the match at Ibrox on Monday, 2 January. One man suffered a minor head injury after being struck by one of these items. Enquiries into the incidents are ongoing.”

A Celtic spokesperson added: "We are aware of a number of incidents affecting supporters and staff and we understand these are being dealt with by the police."

It comes nine months after a man was charged when a bottle hit a Celtic physio which left him needing stitches. In the same game, the second half had to be delayed while glass was cleared from Joe Hart’s six-yard box after a bottle hurled from behind the Celtic keeper’s goal struck the crossbar.
