Greg O'Shea reveals why he turned down offer to appear on Dancing with the Stars

Irish presenter Greg O'Shea has revealed that he turned down Dancing with the Stars because he didn't want to step on his good friend Jordan Conroy's toes.

The Six O'Clock Show host recalled when he was approached to take part in the hit dancing show but can't see himself ever accepting the offer following his former Rugby 7s teammate's success.

Viewers will recall Jordan reaching the show finals of 2022's series with professional partner Salome Chachua, and the couple were runners-up to Nina Carberry and Pasquale La Rocca.

O'Shea compared the situation to the approach by ITV bosses to sign Conroy up to Love Island, but he turned it down because Greg won series five.

Greg told RSVP Magazine: "I have been asked to do Dancing with the Stars a couple of times but the fact Jordan did it and smashed it, I don’t think I will. I don't want to step on his toes.

"He feels the same as he has been asked to do Love Island he said no. We respect each other like that."

The Limerick native added that he would be up for doing more reality television in the future, however.

"Maybe something like Celebrity SAS, or I’m A Celebrity, where I could show my personality and take on some challenges, I’d love that," he said.

"Dating shows are a thing of the past!"

Greg recently confirmed he is single, but has ruled out trying to find love on a dating app.

"No way. I’ve never been on dating apps, even before Love Island," he said.

"I’m not shunning them, a lot of my mates have found long-term partners on it. But it’s not for me, I’m old school, traditional, which is very hard in this day and age to find someone in that setting.

"I’ve been told to try [celebrity dating app] Raya but who’s going to be on that in Ireland? Myself and Ryan Tubridy? [laughs]. I don’t think I will."

Greg had a hard time following his split from ex Amber Gill after the pair won Love Island.

Would he be hesitant to go public with a relationship in the future?

"I have been thinking about that but the problem is I don’t have a girlfriend so I don’t know what I’d do," he explained.

"When I do have a girlfriend at some stage, it will depend how I feel about her and what she wants."

The TV presenter thinks relationships in the public eye work best when one partner isn't well known.

He said: "You can have your own personal life with them. I think that leads to a stronger relationship between you and that person, rather than plastering it all over Instagram for everyone to see.

"I don’t know for sure because I’m not in that space right now, we’ll see what happens in the future."

This summer will mark four years since Greg won Love Island, and although he shunned the influencer lifestyle in the UK for a career in Ireland, he still speaks to some of his former castmates.

"I talk to a couple of lads from my season - Chris Taylor, Jordan Hames, Joe Garratt, Matthew MacNabb as well although he wasn’t on my season," he said.

"They are very similar to me, we have a lot in common. They all reached out to me after my Late Late interview.

"I wouldn’t say I’m best friends with any of the girls, we just happened to have a mad experience together, but we still follow each other on Instagram. You can’t be friends with everyone."
