Greg O'Shea 'feels sick' with himself after turning down six-figure brand deals

Love Island winner Greg O'Shea still 'feels sick' when he thinks about the 'six-figure' modelling deals he turned down.

The rugby player who won the 2019 series said that he "didn't follow the usual path" that islanders often take after finishing the show.

Speaking to Doireann Garrihy on her The Laughs of Your Life podcast, he said: "I had those contacts with six-figure deals sitting in front of me and I said no to them. It makes me sick to this day.

"If you knew how much money I turned down, honestly, oh my God."

Greg and Amber Gill, who he won the show with, ended things just five weeks after they left the villa.

After scooping the £50,000 prize money, Amber accused Greg of breaking up with her over text - which he denied.

"After the show, I didn't follow the path you're supposed to - the unwritten rules of you win the show, you move to London, you do the red carpet events, you're the 'it' couple and you low-key promote the show," he explained.

After Amber's accusation, he lost more than half a million followers on Twitter with angry fans using the 'UnfollowGreg' hashtag.

He said how he was also bombarded by death threats and his friends and family were sent abusive messages online.

He told Doireann: “I’d love to say ‘no regrets’ but there probably is one. I should have bit my tongue a bit longer and stayed in the relationship with Amber a bit longer.

"I was just way too honest and way too focused about going to the Olympics at the time, which worked because I did go in hindsight.

“But when she posed the question to me being like, ‘you’re obviously gonna ask me to be your girlfriend, are you?’

“I was like, ‘but sure how is this gonna work? I’m trying to train to go to the Olympics, you’re in the UK, you’re the ‘it’ girl, and everyone wants a bit of you.'

"I was like ‘this isn’t going to work.'

“I was just way too honest, too early... stupid Greg just decided to answer honestly over FaceTime and that’s when the whole ‘Greg breaks up with Amber over text’ thing comes out,” he explained.

Amber recently admitted that she was coming out as gay after she wrote on Twitter that she was "switching teams".

She told FUBAR Radio's Access All Areas hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng that it was an "off-the-cuff moment" and that it was "true".

"I meant exactly what I said," she added.
