This means that she will be suspended until June 2024 at the earliest.
They said: “The Green Party parliamentary party has agreed to remove the party whip and suspend Deputy Neasa Hourigan from the parliamentary party for not less than 15 months after she voted against the Government earlier this evening.
“It will be open to her to apply for readmission after this period. Deputy Hourigan will also lose her Oireachtas committee positions.
“The parliamentary party regrets having to take these steps but believes that effectiveness in government relies on unity in every vote.”
Earlier today, the Government won a vote on the eviction ban following fraught scenes in the Dáil.
Green Party and Dublin Central TD Neasa Hourigan abstained on the first two votes in the Dáil, which were on amendments that the Regional Independents and Aontú made to the Government's countermotion.
However, on the third and fourth vote, which were on the Government's countermotion, she voted against the Government and in line with Sinn Féin and other opposition parties.
While there was doubt about what her Green Party colleague Patrick Costello would do, he ultimately voted in line with the Government.
The Government won the vote on its countermotion by 83 votes to 68.
Sinn Féin, the Labour Party, People Before Profit and the Rural Independents all voted against the Government.
At the Sinn Féin parliamentary meeting on Wednesday evening, sources said that there was “lots of anger and real concern for renters expressed”.
Leader Mary Lou McDonald said that while the Government has “won their vote”. They “have categorically lost the argument”.
It is understood she said: “This is pyrrhic victory. The consequences of their actions for workers and families will be catastrophic.
“Government and Independent TDs voted to make more people homeless. It is a despicable decision.”
